Studio Equipment

Over the last decade, I have had the privilege to teach in music schools, universities, community colleges, at students’ homes, and in my own independent music studio. One thing that never change is the need to have proper equipment for teaching. I have compiled a list of my go-to products that make teaching easy whether you are at home or in a school.

The Homebase Kit

  • Piano Life Saver - this humidifier system requires professional installation services. A lot of piano tuners are certified installers, and can safely install the system onto your piano.

  • Dampp-Chaser Pad Treatment & Replacement Pad - I go through about 1 bottle a year, and I always keep this in stock for my technician to replace.

  • Large Whiteboard - a large whiteboard is so nice to write memos, teach music theory to a group of students, and stick notes from students.

  • Small Whiteboard - smaller whiteboard is perfect to have on hand to demonstrate things like staff notation to students in a quick and clear manner.

  • Magnets - these magnets are great for teaching staff notation on the whiteboard.

  • Black Grid Tape - I make my own staff on the large whiteboard using this grid tape.

  • Dry Erase Markers

  • Seiko Metronome

  • IKEA Eket Storage - while bookshelves are great, I like how these have doors, so everything can be neatly tucked away. The height is also perfect for music books.

  • Storage Baskets - if you have extra room in your storage cabinet or bookshelf, baskets are great for storing stickers, prizes, etc.

  • Stickers

The Traveling Kit

The College Faculty Kit

  • Laptop/Tablet Adapter - depending on the model of your laptop/tablet, it is helpful to have an adapter to connect to the projector or computer in the classroom if teaching a group class.

  • Headphone-to-Stereo Adapter - this is helpful if you are teaching in a piano lab without headsets in place. In order for your earbuds to fit, you will need an adapter.
